A Case of Secondary Mania after Traumatic Brain Injury

Abstract

|
A 53 year old female patient who had no past history or family history of bipolar disorder, developed mania after traumatic brain injury due to a motor vehicle accident. Brain computed tomography showed a hemorrhage on the left thalamus.
Diffuse axonal injury and hypoxic ischemic injury besides left thalamic hemorrhage couldn't be ruled out, these complex injury might influence brain neurotransmitter system, especially serotoninergic system, which might develop secondary mania.
